SCC VOTE:
REDESIGN
}

Background
Designed and submitted on spec, this was a passion project I created for the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters. Developed over the course of a week, the goal was to improve the look, feel and functionality of their voting app resource: SCC Vote.

BEFORE: What did I inherit?
}

SCC Vote enables users to "Find your polling place, see what contests are on your ballot, and read about the candidates and measures to help you make an informed decision at the polls."

Voters can also check to see if they're registered to vote and track their mail in ballot.

The problem is, it always seems broken. Some links are dead and/or give inaccurate information.

AFTER: WHAT WERE My DESIGN GOALS?
}

My solution was born out of frustration that in an age where we feel comfortable paying bills, banking & voting for our favorite singer on TV, it's odd that we can't figure out the most efficient way to vote in one of the most connected countries in the world let alone in the Silicon Valley. Once I saw the sate of the original app & how antiquated our voting systems are, I just had to whip this up!

I specifically wanted to bring the experience up to date without losing the intent of the original app as an information and voting supplement. I added:

● A dedicated home screen with election news and headlines, voting deadlines & access to sample ballots.
● Moving registration and voter account information to a side drawer represented by the 'hamburger' menu.
● Bottom Navigation allows voters to access election information instantly.
● Voters can vote-by-tap directly through the app and verify their identity via their phones biometric fingerprint reader.

Outcome
Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters responded to my submission and unfortunately the concept was too far out of their budget and ability to green-light given that it's a government agency.

Current laws prohibit the use of mobile phones for voting in the U.S.A, but hopefully the time will come when we'll be able to use our devices to increase the number of voters and cast ballots conveniently and securely.
