Problem: How do you create a crowdfunding campaign for mobile gaming?

Solution: Successful Kickstarter campaigns don't just happen. In 2013, crowdfunding was still relatively new and creating a campaign took planning and effort to successfully fund any idea. Kickstarter campaigns live or die by what they present to potential backers and the FanDrafter Kickstarter campaign was no exception. After our successful beta, we looked to raise $30,000 to keep the lights on and iterate to our version 1.0. With some research, we realized successful Kickstarter campaigns have a few things in common:

● A good story
● A validated Minimum Viable Product
● A core group of early adopters
● Good Branding
● A video
● Solid pledge rewards that offer rewards from under $5 - $10,000+
● High quality assets to convey percived value

With the help of some friends in the film industry, we were able to secure a video and I created all the digital assets using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to design high fidelity mockups, and I managed the creation and monitoring of the campaign.

We were successfully funded September 18, 2013. Over the course of the next couple of months we got the rewards created and shipped and rolled out our version 1.0. FanDrafter became the first Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) app to offer NFL playoff DFS.

At our peak we had over 3,000 users and were running over 15,000 games every NFL week.
